Im a good uncle so I went to my nephews Clone Wars Birthday Party. Being 5 years old my nephew loves The Clone Wars. To be honest I didn’t even know what they were.

For those of you as clueless as me The clone Wars is a series of battles born our of the Star Wars movies and Star Wars 4 in particular.

Back to the party, I was shocked to see that the toys handed out to everyone in the party in costume ( www.clonewarstoystore.com ) recieved some of the same action figuures ( www.clonewarsactionfigure.com ) that existed when i was a kid. Light Sabers was all over the place!

Self Creating Web Sites

Batchtrak for MFG/PRO Webinar

Today we launched the invitation for our BatchTrak for MFG/PRO Webinar We used our PICS Marketing site to send an email invite to our contact base. Using PICS Marketing’s branded i-Builder service coupled with Salesforce.com allows for a simple trackable mailing that complies with the CAN-SPAM laws.

Senderbase.org Sucks!

All of a sudden one of our mailservers started getting mail rejected from some pretty big hosts the the Vetrans Administration Dell and Verizon Wireless. Turned out that this server trigged a Suspicious rating from Senderbase. Seems Senderbase owned by a company called IronPort calculates a rating for each mail server based on some criteria such as blacklisting, volume, RDNS and some others. Some of the mail servers we were trying to contact were good enough to tell us why they were refusing our connections.

THE PROBLEM - Senderbase.org has no support and no details on our “Reputation Rating” we needed to dig up trustedsource.com to find out our rating. An email to them got our rating changed from Suspicious to Netrual in 4 hours (Thanks TrustedSource!) but then Ironport customers are still rejecting our mail.

SENDERBASE: You need a mechanism to allow honest ISP’s that have had a problem and corrected it a way to get back online. We are running businesses.

Installation Bundles

Linux has RPMs, HP has Depots, FreeBSD has Packages what ever you call them, installation bundles are a great help when you need to install open source or third party software onto a machine. I needed to install Apache, Tomcat and Java on to an HP-UX 11.11 machine remotely. Rather than having to deal with a ll the complexities of software interaction, program compilation (which can be a real pain on HP-UX) and installation, all I needed to do was access the Software porting center for HP and grab one bundle. Nice and Easy!

DocLib for MFG/PRO Webinar

As I mentioned in an earlier post we are making a concentrated effort to market our products in 2007. This includes monthly sales webinars to introduce our products to the MFG/PRO and QAD marketplace.

Our DocLib product is one of our main products and for that reason we are showcasing it a couple of times during the year. The upcoming webinar is on January 16th at 2pm and we advertised it with a four prong approach:

Email blast to our customers, prospects and business partners using PICS Marketing Email
Postcard Mailing to our customers and prospects using PICS Marketing Postcards
Registration Links on our Websites index pages and News Pages
Personalized Phone Calls to prospects that have expressed interest in DocLib in the past.

Our Email campaigns seem to really be working. Using PICS Marketing we can see the following results:

25.42%

Unsubscribed: 1

0.13%

This resulted in 25 clicks on our registration page for the Webinar and we are very excited about this turnout.

SOX Compliance

Today i needed to login to a prospects system to be able to generate a quotation for them. I needed to look over their environment, size up the project etc.

This resulted in reviewing about 40 pages of legaleze including a NDA - Non Disclousure Document as well as a Access Policy document which is required for SOX compliance.
Time to review the documents 4 hours… who pays for this?

Got Gevity?

2007 is going to be an interesting year for our 12 year old business. At the end of 2006 we had 20 employees in 12 states. The administrative burden of compliance was starting to become a little much for PICS so at the end of 2006 we started to explore other options. We came across the concept of co-employment and a PEO or Professional Employment Organization. A PEO enters into a co-employment relationship with a company and they share some of the legal responsibilities of employment. In particular they are legally responsible for the payroll, benefits and insurance for the employees.

So what does this mean for PICS? In means that as of January 1, 2007 we no longer have any employees - all of our employees as well as my partner and i now work for Gevity and PICS is now considered the “worksite” employer.

It also means that we now have an in-sourced HR consultant available for our workforce and to help us attract and retain new talent, to work with us to become and stay complient in the 12 states we have employees in and to continue to build a world class company where our employees will want to work and grow with us.
